It's never too early to book! Most clients book 6-12 months in advance. If you are ready to decide on a design please call Eliza at (773) 561-3461 to set up a tasting appointment. Please note that most appointments are made 2 weeks in advance.

You can find a list of our available fillings here.

About how much is my cake going to cost?
The total cost of your wedding cake will depend upon the number of servings, frosting, fillings, decoration and delivery. The average wedding cake runs about $800 for a moderately sized guest count. Please visit our wedding cake pricing guide for further information.

How do I book my wedding cake?
You may elect to book your wedding cake at the conclusion of your appointment (if you are ready), in store or over the phone.

May I book my wedding cake online?
It is perfectly acceptable to begin your booking process via email, especially if you are busy or live outside of the area. However we do ask that booking is completed via phone or in store so that everyone involved is on the same page.

Do you require a deposit or payment when I book my wedding cake?
Yes. A 50% deposit is required in order to book your cake with the balance due two weeks prior to the event date.

May I order other desserts in addition to my wedding cake?
Of course! Swedish Bakery offers a variety of sweets including cookies and petit fours. When you supplement your order with other sweets you will receive 10% off your sweets order!

My original guest count has gone up/down significantly; can I add more or remove servings to or from my wedding cake order?
Yes. It is not uncommon for clients to have a different guest count by the time their balance is due. We allow for any necessary changes up to the two weeks prior to the event date.

What if I need to cancel my special occasion or wedding cake order?
While we are never pleased to see a wedding or special occasion cake order cancelled we do understand that in rare occasions this does occur. Cancellations which occur prior to the two week dead line will be refunded, less 5% or $50, whichever is greater. If 1-2 weeks' notice is given, your order total; less 50% or $100, whichever is greater will be refunded. All refunds must be made using the same method of payment. In the case of cash, a refund check will be issued. No monetary refund will occur if less than 1 week notice is given. All payments and deposits will revert to a store credit, unless the cake has been made. In this case no store credit will be given.

My grandmother had a great recipe...could you make that?
Swedish Bakery produces thousands of cakes each year and uses very large equipment to do so. While we would love to accommodate each request we receive, our facilities and production are simply too large.

I saw this adorable Minnie Mouse cake a Pinterest, can you make it for me?
While we would love to honor each request we receive for custom cakes, licensing and copyright laws often restrict our ability to recreate images or artwork from media such as films, television or professional sports. Without the express, written permission of the company or owner(s) allowing us one time use, we unfortunately cannot accommodate these requests. Swedish Bakery does offer a wide range of licensed, theme cakes through the store which feature many of today's popular children's characters and films.

May I use fresh flowers on my wedding cake?
Of course!  While Swedish Bakery personally does not store or place fresh flowers, many of our clients elect to have their florist place them once the cake has arrived at their venue. It is always a good idea to consider how flower placement will affect a cake's existing design.

Can you make me an adult themed cake for my bachelor/bachelorette party?
Sorry, but due to the nature of our operation we do not allow for any material that may be considered profane, derogatory or offensive.

Tasting Appointments

Are tastings available on Sundays?
Swedish Bakery is closed on Sundays.

How long should I expect my tasting appointment to last?
A typical tasting appointment will run between 45-60 minutes. The more prepared you are for your appointment the more you will get out of your time with the consultant.

Is there a tasting fee?
Yes. In order to guarantee your appointment, a $20.00 tasting fee is required. When you book a cake through Swedish Bakery the tasting fee will be applied towards your contract. (Simply think of it as a retainer fee.)

What if I need to cancel my appointment?
There is a 24 hour cancellation policy for all tasting. Cancellations after the 24 hour cut off will be charged the full amount of $20.00.

Are tastings available for other events such as baby showers and cotillions?
Yes!

May I bring my children to my tasting?
Unfortunately, no. The route to our consultation room intersects with a hectic production area. Our insurance prevents us from allowing anyone under the age of 16 to enter our production area. Sorry, no exceptions.

May other family members and friends come with me to my tasting?
Yes. There is room for up to 4 adults in our consultation room, not including the consultant.

May I bring my own designs and ideas to my appointment?
Of course! Every wedding is unique and all clients are encouraged to come prepared. You may bring in whatever materials you would like to share during your appointment. These can include, but are not limited to photos, magazine, invitations and swatches. The more prepared you are for your appointment the more you will get out of it!

What if I don't have time for a private consultation?
Tasting "to-go" boxes are available upon request to be picked up at your convenience in store. Please note that tasting "to-go" boxes are priced the same as private consultations.

My aunt/sister/cousin has a nut allergy. Can you guarantee my wedding cake will be nut free?
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that your wedding cake is 100% nut free. Swedish Bakery is a European bakery which means almonds and other tree nuts are used heavily in our production processes. While certain items may not call for tree nuts, the ingredients used to create the product have come in contact with nuts in one form or another.

Do you offer gluten free or sugar free wedding cakes?
No. Flour, wheat and sugar are integral parts of Swedish Bakery's production process. If you are interested in gluten free or sugar free products for your wedding please visit Deerfield's Bakery in Deerfield, Buffalo Grove or Schaumburg, or Rose's Wheat Free Bakery and Café in Evanston.

What are groom's cakes and do you provide them?

These [groom's] cakes may come in all shapes, flavors and themes that usually represent an interest of the groom's such as a sport or hobby. The Big Day

How large is a serving of wedding cake?
A serving of wedding cake is 1" x 2.5" x 5".

Do you offer shipping for wedding cakes?
Yes and no. Shipping a wedding cake can be a very tricky task. Because cakes are perishable items they must first be completely frozen before they travel to their final destination. It is very difficult to ship an assembled wedding cake so each tier must be packaged and frozen separately, and assembled at its final destination. Because of the freezing process, all shipped cakes must be iced in either fondant or marzipan, be devoid of decoration, and shipped overnight.

Do you offer Sunday or holiday delivery?
Swedish Bakery is closed on Sundays, however with proper notice and staff availability we may be able to arrange Sunday delivery for you, with an additional delivery fee. Please note that delivery is not available during major federal holidays or when the bakery is closed for the Christmas holiday. You may elect to have the cake delivered the Saturday prior if you and your venue are able to confirm the availability of adequate refrigeration.

Will you deliver my cake yourselves or do you contract a third party for deliveries?
Swedish Bakery personally performs all Wedding Cake deliveries. Delivery is available within the city of Chicago and surrounding areas.

How much will it cost to have my cake delivered?
Delivery prices are based upon the distance traveled between the bakery and the venue, and the time and date of the delivery.

What time will my cake be delivered?
The time a cake is delivered is contingent upon venue location and reception time. We will coordinate with your venue and/or caterer regarding delivery times and instructions.

Do you cut the cake?
While we would love to stay and enjoy your big day with you, your caterer is best equipped to disassemble and cut your wedding cake.

Do you provide fresh flowers to decorate the cake?
Swedish Bakery does not provide fresh flowers, nor do we accept them for placement at the bakery. Yourself, a friend or family member, or your florist may provide and place fresh flowers on your cake when it arrives at the venue.

Do you provide toppers and stands?
We recommend that our clients take the time to find the perfect topper and stand for their big day. Swedish Bakery's very talented decorators can create unique and special toppers upon request; however stands are the responsibility of the client.

Will you offer top tier replicas for my first anniversary?
Every wedding cake client is given a Swedish Bakery gift certificate as a thank you for allowing us to be a part of your special day. You may choose to use your gift certificate to purchase a replica of your top tier if you wish to do so. You may also opt to save your top tier for freezing from your original display cake.
